Diego Pons

Diego Pons was born in Uruguay in 1963, he studied guitar and bass in Montevideo, forming different music bands until 1984. In 1980 he was accepted by the University of Applied Arts in Montevideo for training as a luthier during four years. In 1984 he moved to Madrid and started his professional career in Spain. From 1991 he played with Emilio Aragón on the programme “VIP noche” and he worked as an editor for the magazine “Guitar Player”, preparing articles and testing benches for guitars and basses, concert coverage, etc. Between 1992 and 1995 he worked as a guitarist and bass player with important artists on the Spanish and international music scene: Guitar with Miguel Bosé (1992), and Nina (1995) and bass with Luis Miguel (1994) Marta Sánchez (1993) and Briggiete Nielsen (1995), amongst others.

In 1996 he opened his own luthier workshop in the centre of Madrid and engaged in making and repairing guitars and basses. Amongst his most popular customers are such prestigious names as: Alejandro Sanz, “La Unión”, “Presuntos Implicados”, and Antonio Flores. In 1999 and 2001 he collaborated as a demonstrator of guitars and basses for important international brands starring in demos, tours, conventions and television programmes in Spain. At the same time, until 2001, he participated as an editor for the magazines “bit&beat” and “guitbass”. From 2004 to the present day he has been playing guitar in the group “Mente en Blanco”.
